17.Use ‘No sooner…………… than’

 

                                 

                                                                                                                                     

 (No sooner+ to be/to have/to do/+sub+main verb+than+second sentence)

Read the Following examples.

1) As soon as he came, they all gave an applause.                                     

Ans-No sooner did he come than all gave an applause.

2) The teacher entered the classroom. Suddenly the students stood up.

Ans-No sooner did the teacher enter the classroom than the students stood up.

3) As soon as it begins to rain, it becomes pleasant.

Ans- No sooner does it begin to rain than it becomes pleasant.

¨टीप:-                                                                                    

1)As soon as च्या जागी no sooner वापरतात.                                                   

2)As soon as सुरु झालेल्या उपवाक्याचे Verbal Question  मध्ये रुपांतर करून ते वाक्य No sooner नंतर लिहितात.

3)स्वल्पविराम काढून than चा वापर करतात.

4)वाक्यात सहयाकारी क्रियापद नसेल तर क्रियापदाच्या काळानुसार to do चे सहाय्य घ्यावे.

e.g.As soon as it begins to rain, it becomes pleasant.

      Ans- No sooner does it begin to rain than it becomes pleasant.

Verb (क्रियापद):-                                                                                       

•      Simple present tense- do

•      Verb with (क्रियापदास)- s/es/ies then use-  does

•      Past verb then use (क्रियापद भूतकाळी)- did

Que.1) Rewrite the following sentences replacing ‘as soon as’ by ‘No sooner …. than ’
(Note : The phrase, ‘No sooner’ must always be followed by an auxiliary (helping verb). P.No- 82

(a) As soon as the Bill is passed, it will become an Act.

(b) As soon as the thief escaped, the family informed the police.

(c) As soon as you have finished, you can submit your answer - papers.

(d) As soon as they can manage, they should change their house.

(e) As soon as the bell will ring, the School Assembly will start.

Answers-

(a) No sooner is the Bill  passed than it will become an Act.

(b) No sooner did the thief escape than the family informed the police.

(c) No sooner have you finished than you can submit your answer - papers.

(d) No sooner can they manage than they should change their house.

(e) No sooner will the bell  ring than the School Assembly will start.

Que.1)Rewrite the following sentences  using  ‘No sooner ……than’

1. She read the telegram. She fainted at once.

2. The thieves saw the police. They ran away at once.

3. I went to bed. Soon I fell asleep.

4. He reached the bus station. The bus came at once.

5. The driver saw the signal. He applied the brake at once.

·       जर दिलेल्या वाक्यात क्रियापदाच्या अगोदर were,was,will,should,shall,would
इत्यादी शब्द असतील.तर No soonerने वाक्याची सुरुवात करताना No sooner वरील पैकी असलेला शब्द लिहावा त्यानंतर पहिली घटना लिहावी व नंतर than लिहून दुसरी घटना लिहावी.

E.g: As soon as she will return from garden, her father will serve her breakfast.

Ans: No sooner will she return from the garden than her father will serve her breakfast.

Eg: As soon as we shall jump, they ran away.

Ans:No sooner shall we jump than they ran away.
