20) Figures Of Speech
1.Apostrophe
(परोक्ष संबोधन अलंकार)
When
a non-living thing or an invisible entity such as God is treated as a person
and spoken to, the figure of speech is Apostrophe.
या अलंकारात
ननजीव, अनुपनथित, काल्पननक गोष्टी सजीव आहेत असे समजून नवधान केलेले असते.
e.g.Please open up my eyes,
dear Lord,
Help,
Lord, to just say “no”
2.Alliteration
(अनुप्रास अलंकार):
Alliteration is the
repetition of the beginning (Consonant) sounds of neighboring words.
या अलंकारात भाषेचा गोडवा, सौंदयय, गेयता वाढवण्याकरता समान व्यंजन ध्वनींची पुनरारुत्ती केली जाते.
e.g. Each day brings new beginnings,
Decisions I must make.
Or travel down the
darkened road,
Bring out the best
in me.
That life is lived
its very best
3. Inversion (व्युत्क्रम
अलंकार)
When the words in a sentence
are not in the correct prose order, the figure of speech is Inversion. या
अलंकारात काव्यात्मक पररणाम साधण्यासाठी नेहमीच्या वाक्यातील शबदांच्या क्रमात बदल
केलेला असतो.
E.g.Decisions I must make.
4.Metaphor
(रूपक अलंकार)
When two unlike things are
compared implicitly, as if the two things are one and the same thing, the
figure of speech is Metaphor.
या अलंकारात ननदान
उपमा अलंकाराप्रमाणे समान गुणधमाची तुलना नसते, तर त्या दोन्ही गोष्टी एकच आहेत, समानच आहेत असे व्यक्त केलेले असते.
e.g.I can choose to take the
road of life,
5.Personification
When in a sentence non – living
(inanimate) things, animals, birds, plants, flowers or ideas etc. are given the
human qualities or they are described as human beings, it is the use of
personification.
e.g.
a)
The waves are singing a song.
b) Stars danced in the sky.
6)
Repetition –
When in a
sentence same words are repeated, it is the use of repetition
e.g.
a) Rain, rain go away.
b) Johny Jonhy,
yes pappa.
7) Simile –
When in a sentence a direct
comparison is made between two objects of different kinds which have at least
one point in common shown using ‘like’ or ‘as’ , it is the use of simile.
e.g.
1) Kashmir is like a heaven of
India.
2) The road lies
like the shaped carpet
6) Onomatopoeia
–
When in a sentence a word it self
expresses sound, it is the use of onomatopoeia.
e.g.
1) The dog’s bhoo bhoo is
creating noise.
